Enrichment
Enrichment, Extension and Extra Curricular
Evidence shows that pupils who take advantage of extra-curricular activities, participate in learning outside the classroom and become involved in the life of a school are much more likely to be successful lifelong learners.
We are proud to be a Sheffield University School
A university without walls...
Sheffield Children's University is part of an exciting national initiative that encourages and celebrates participation in a wide range of inspiring learning opportunities outside school hours. National research shows a clear link between participation in study support activities and academic progress due to increased self-esteem and confidence. Research in Sheffield shows that children and young people who participate in out of school SCU activities achieve better at KS2 and exceed their targets.
Children's commitment to learning is celebrated by recording participation in all aspects of voluntary learning through an awards system. One credit is awarded for each hour of learning that takes place. These are then converted into awards:
Bronze (30 hours)
Silver (65 hours)
Gold (100 hours)
…and these continue right up to 1000 hours!
Special award ceremonies are held in schools, at the Town Hall and the city’s Universities to encourage participation, and children receive a profile of their activities and hours of engagement with every award.
Extra Curricular Activities
At Wincobank we offer a range of extra curricular activities from sports to arts clubs. We foster partnerships with local community groups and businesses to provide a whole host of opportunities for our pupils.
We also provide breakfast and after-school club, open to children in Ducklings 2 to Year 2.
Enrichment
Throughout our curriculum, children are provided with memorable and inspirational experiences, including trips and visits which build on the learning taking place in the classroom.
In addition, all pupils experience theatre productions, visiting artists and authors, poetry days and musical experiences to develop their language and creativity.
Making a difference
Children at Wincobank are explicitly taught that they have the power to make a difference. Each term we raise money for a charity and talk about actions we can take to help others or the planet. We support local, national and international charities.
