Transition 2020

We want all of our children to feel happy, safe and secure. The quicker they settle in, the more confident they become, helping them to develop independence and enjoy their learning.

Change is a normal part of life and can provide opportunities for children to develop their resilience. Our arrangements are designed to reduce anxiety and promote a smooth transition at every stage of a child’s learning journey.

New to School

A child’s transition into education is an exciting time for the whole family. You and your child may have questions about how life is going to change. What will school life be like? What can you do to prepare yourself and your child for the very best start?

In the current situation it is a particularly unusual and challenging time, and we know you and your child might be feeling worried about the transition into Reception. We want to reassure you that we are here for you every step of the way.

In order to follow the Government's guidelines on social distancing, we have had to adjust our arrangements for supporting this year’s transition. However, we hope the remote activities that we have planned will help put you and your child at ease and get them feeling as excited as we are for the new school year. Please see more information in the letter below

Y2 to Y3 Transition

The transition from infant to junior school can seem as daunting as starting secondary school for some children. A new site, new teachers, and often new friends can make for an overwhelming experience.

The majority of pupils from our school transfer to Concord Junior School.  Throughout the year, we work closely with the Junior School to run a series of exciting transition events for pupils transferring. These events allow children and their parents to get to know their new setting and staff.  However, with school closures due to Covid-19, it has not been possible to run our full series of transition events this year.

We want to assure parents and carers of all Y2 pupils due to transfer to Concord in September, that even though your child is not currently in school, we have been busy re-arranging how transition activities will take place this year.

In order to provide an introduction to the upcoming year, we are offering families of Y2 pupils the chance to participate in a transition meeting. This meeting is being offered in three different formats:

face to face, in school following current social distance guidance

virtual meeting via video call

phone call

Below are links to the transition pages of the Junior school websitesCo our Y2 children are transferring to this year:

Limpsfield Junior School

The information we provide to families will be updated on this page, with further details as soon as we are able to confirm arrangements for transition.

In School Transition

Usually during the Summer Term, we hold transition days and information sessions for current pupils and their parents to get to know their new teachers.  Unfortunately, with school closures due to Covid-19, it has not been possible to do this so far this year.

In order to provide some closure for this academic year and an introduction to the upcoming year, we are offering all families the chance to participate in a transition meeting. This meeting is being offered in three different formats:

face to face, in school following current social distance guidance

virtual meeting via video call

phone call
